At the time of this portfolio, President Grover Cleveland is the only United States president to have served two, non-consecutive terms as president. That said, former President Donald J. Trump is currently running for a second non-consecutive term in the eventual 2023 election. President Cleveland was married in the White House during his first term in office.
Grover Cleveland was the son of a Presbyterian Minister and was raised in a deeply devout household. He maintained his Presbyterian identity throughout his lifetime, though not as devout as his parents. His full name (Stephen Grover Cleveland) was in honor of the first pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Caldwell, New Jersey—where President Cleveland’s father was serving as pastor. His wedding, the first of a sitting president to occur in the White House, was presided over the Rev. Bryon Sutherland and the president’s brother, the Rev. William Cleveland in a Presbyterian ceremony.
