His full name (Stephen Grover Cleveland) was in honor of the first pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Caldwell, New Jersey—where President Cleveland’s father was serving as pastor. His wedding, the first of a sitting president to occur in the White House, was presided over the Rev. Bryon Sutherland and the president’s brother, the Rev. William Cleveland in a Presbyterian ceremony.
