:President Abraham Lincoln is largely considered to be one of the greatest United States Presidents to have ever held the office. His commitment to “The better angels of our nature”, the preservation of the Union, and the abolition of chattel slavery in the United States makes him a towering figure on the American landscape. Even more he is a towering figure as he remains our tallest president coming in at 6 foot 4 inches tall. Tragically, the most revered president would meet his end at the bullet of John Wilkes Booth—the first president in United States history to be assassinated.
Though celebrated for his appeals to religious ideals and overtones, President Lincoln seemed to have no proclivity toward organized religion. He never joined a church, though often attended congregations like New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington D.C. He’d also appeal to more unconventional means of religious and theological expressions. It was reported there was a seance in the White House during his administration.
