You are Mine and I Am Yours: A Wesleyan Prayer for Kids
By Robert W. Lee and Melissa Collier Gepford
The Covenant Prayer in the Wesleyan Tradition is a prayer that is part of a Covenant Renewal Service developed by John Wesley himself. Wesley was an Anglican clergyman in the 18th century. He lived from 1703-1791 in England. His life, writings, and witness gave birth to a movement that brought forth denominations like the United Methodist Church, the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and the Nazarene Church. Many of these denominations pray this prayer during the first of the year as a means of renewal, but it is appropriate at all times of the year.
The prayer has been used regularly in worship by Wesleyans in Britain dating back to 1755, but its truth is timeless and relevant to today. Recognizing the prayer is written in 18th century language (you can read the original prayer in the back of this book), we attempted to encapsulate the prayer for modern, younger disciples of Jesus. In the spirit of John Wesley we reformed the prayer while maintaining its original intent. We commend this work to your families in the spirit and zeal of Mr. Wesley, that you may know the fullness of a living and loving God.
The book will be released on October 29th, 2024—you can find the book on Amazon. We are also happy to be partnering with bookselling outlets to bring this book to you. We look forward to sharing this book with you soon.
